Application: Ballast Water Compliance Monitoring
The effects on phytoplankton from UV treatment systems is an area of concern as some methods may run into problems when trying to accurately estimate cell counts after UV treatment. A detailed study by Bradie et al in Journal of Sea Research (2018) explored how well rapid indicative tools can estimate cell counts compared to microscopic analysis for the purpose of estimating phytoplankton cells after UV treatments in actual ballast water samples. Results using the Ballast-Check 2 showed a very good correlation with microscopic analysis indicating the Ballast-Check 2 does a good job at estimating cell counts in UV treated ballast water samples.
