In September we welcomed many of our distributors from around the world to our new office for training. It was an exciting 3 days filled with lots of information about our newest products. We capped off the week with a fun-filled trip to Alcatraz Island and an evening in San Francisco.
Exploratorium in San Francisco recently held an open house highlighting new experiences that immerse their visitors in the bay & ocean environment. Turner Designs participated in the event by demonstrating and explaining how fluorescence works in an effort to help people understand the basic principles behind our new C6P Submersible Fluorometers, which will be deployed off an Explorato ...
Student research assistant Faith Neff worked to install the Turner Designs C6 sensor array on the Moses-Saunders dam during summer 2014. This instrument has been operating essentially continuously since June 2014. Faith, graduated in 2015 as an Environmental Resource Engineering Major from Humboldt State University, was supported by the National Science Foundation ASSETS Serving Humanity R ...
Turner Designs is excited to announce the release of a High-Capacity battery for the C-series sensors. With this accessory, customers are now able to significantly extend the length of deployments for the C3 Submersible Fluorometer and the C6 Multi-Sensor Platform. Providing 6600 amp hours instead of 2200 amp hours, the high capacity battery (PN 3200-600) will last 3 times as long as the stand ...
Introducing several new products last year is making this year particularly busy for everyone at Turner Designs. Our C-sense pCO2 sensor is getting a great reception from customers while our partners expand options for integration. Our red chlorophyll sensor is deployed at several sites and we should have good data sets to share soon. Ballast-Check 2, our Handheld PAM Fluorometer, will soon be w ...
Turner Designs is excited to announce our new distributor in Germany, terra4. Representing complementary products for over 8 years, terra4 is a valuable addition to our group of international distributors. Welcome aboard!
Here's a fun story about Turner Designs founder, George Turner:
George went to Charleston High School. After school he would search the alleys for “things of interest” that businesses had tossed in the trash. He would glean mechanical and electrical items and take them home to his workshop in his Dad’s garage. He put on his roller skates and tucked the items under one arm and with the ...
The ALS Ice Bucket challenge is nothing new but our president, Jim Crawford, added a nice touch when his name was called. Jim offered to donate an additional $10 per employee who chose to implement his torture. Needless to say, quite a few employees joined the fun and Jim ended up donating $200. Even though it was a beautiful California afternoon, Jim found the experience to be uncomfo ...
Turner Designs recently developed an in vivo chlorophyll sensor that uses a red excitation light source to elicit a fluorescence response from algae. This sensor is ideal for environments rich in Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) and blue-green algae. DOM has long been known to interfere with blue excitation fluorometry, minimizing accuracy of chlorophyll concentration and algal abund ...

We're excited to introduce a UV Secondary Solid Standard for our Cyclops-7 Submersible Fluorometers. Instrumentation configured for UV analyses typically rely on the use of liquid standards, such as Quinine Sulfate, for ensuring instrument integrity. However, transporting and preparing liquid standards can be tedious and sometimes hazardous. The UV Secondary Solid Standard is compact, light ...
